How much does circumcision cost in Dublin?+
At Elite Medical & Dental Clinic in Smithfield, circumcision starts at €400 for babies under one year of age. From one year and above, the price increases with age up to €1,450. You receive the exact price at your consultation, before anything is booked.
What is the best age for circumcision?+
Medically, the earlier the better — the first weeks and months of life are the simplest, the procedure is quickest, and healing is generally fastest and least distressing. Circumcision can be performed safely at any age, but older children and adults need a longer procedure and a longer recovery.
Is the procedure painful?+
Local anaesthetic is used to numb the area completely, so the procedure itself is not painful. The anaesthetic injection is briefly uncomfortable, and some tenderness in the first 24 to 48 hours afterwards is normal and manageable with simple pain relief appropriate to the patient's age.
Will my baby cry during the circumcision?+
Babies and toddlers often cry even though the area is numb — usually because of being held still, being hungry or cold, or simply the unfamiliar setting rather than pain. Young babies are typically the easiest to settle; children over six months are more likely to be distressed by the situation itself.
How long does it take?+
The procedure itself usually takes only a few minutes. Including preparation, the anaesthetic and going through aftercare, plan to be at the clinic for around 45 minutes to an hour. Patients go home the same day.
How long does healing take?+
Babies generally heal within one to two weeks. Older children and adults usually need a little longer, and should avoid rough play, cycling or strenuous activity during that time. We explain exactly what to expect and what is normal before you leave the clinic.
Are there any risks?+
Circumcision is a safe, routine procedure when performed by an experienced surgeon in a clinical setting. Uncommon risks include minor bleeding, swelling or bruising, and infection — the last of which is significantly reduced by following the aftercare instructions carefully.
Do you speak Arabic?+
Yes. Dr. Adnan Aloul speaks Arabic, English, and Romanian, so the procedure, the aftercare, and all of your questions can be discussed fully in your own language.
